The Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) of Japan will offer internship opportunities to Kenyan students through about 30 Japanese private companies. The “Internships in Japan for AI and Tech Students program aims to promote diversity in the recruitment of IT talent for Japanese companies and Japanese-affiliated companies. The program also creates opportunities for interns from foreign countries to learn about overseas business strategies, various technologies, and specialized skills. What’s Internships in Japan for AI and Tech Students?
Internships in Japan for AI and Tech Students is a program to achieve diversification in the acquisition of IT talent by Japanese companies and Japanese-affiliated companies.
Furthermore, it will create opportunities for interns from developing countries to learn about overseas business strategies and, various technologies, and specialized skills.
The organizer will arrange the necessary equipment, travel expenses, stay expenses, etc.

*Operation of this project is entrusted to Force Valley Concierge Co., Ltd. by METI.
Recruitment numbers:
1 to 5 recruits per company.
Internship Period:
August-December 2024(approximately one month)
The specific duration will be determined through discussions with the host company.
Internship Placement:
- Companies headquartered in Japan (excluding industry associations, non-profit corporations, and local governments), either at locations within Japan or at overseas subsidiaries.
- Host companies will be determined through matching by the administration office and approval by the screening committee.
Internship Activity Examples:
- Digital transformation / New business development leveraging AI technology, etc.
- Web design and production for overseas markets, etc.
- Market research/marketing in the intern’s country
- Service development for overseas markets,
etc
Main support for interns:
- Daily living support: ¥3,000/day during the stay.
- Coverage of round-trip airfare, accommodation during the stay, and local transportation
- Pre-internship training
- Internship insurance
Main Responsibilities of Interns:
- Collaborate with company representatives to establish internship plans (including roles and goals for both company representatives and interns).
- Participate in training sessions and presentation sessions.
- Ensure safety and health management by actively engaging in communication, reporting, and consultation with the secretariat and the host company.
- Submit documents, notifications, and reports before, during, and after the internship period.
- Act with awareness as a participant in projects funded by the Japanese government’s public funds.

Application requirements
Applicants must meet all the following criteria:
- Must align with the objectives of this program and be willing to contribute to the internationalization efforts of Japanese companies actively, the expansion of overseas businesses, and building networks with overseas universities through internship participation.
- Must have any experience with IT / Al-related technical skills
- Must hold citizenship of a country listed on the OECD/DAC list (excluding the People’s Republic of China).
- Must be able to communicate in English or Japanese.
- Must be able to provide proof of various qualifications (such as IELTS, TOEIC, TOEFL, CEFR, JLPT, etc.).
- Must be able to fully commit to internships and training at companies and be available for activities scheduled according to the activity plan submitted to the administration office.
- Must meet any additional requirements specified by individual companies.

Participate in the Coding Contest - July 2024: Internship Participants Selection
Internship Participants will be selected - June-August 2024: Pre-Interviews
Have a pre-interview session - Matching Interview
Match participants with host companies - July-August 2024: Online Pre-Training
Join an online pre-training session - August-December 2024: Internship in Japan
Arrive in Japan and begin the internship (approximately one-month duration) - December-February Post-Internship
Attend post-internship training sessions

Application Guidelines
Important Points to Confirm:
Before submitting your application, please confirm and agree to the following points:
- Submitting an entry does not guarantee a match with a host company.
- We are unable to respond to inquiries regarding selection status, reasons for acceptance or rejection, etc.
- Even after approval by the screening committee and successful matching, there is a possibility of cancellation due to unavoidable circumstances such as visa issues or natural disasters.
- Once the screening committee has granted approval and matching has been confirmed by mutual agreement, cancellations due to reasons from either the company or the intern are not permitted.
- Temporary returns to the home country or interruptions in activities due to reasons from either the company or the intern are not allowed after the internship has begun. If an interruption occurs, the applicant will be ineligible for future applications starting from the following year. Additionally, issuance of completion certificates for interns may not be possible.
- As this is a government-funded internship program, the results of the internship will be published on the website, including the name of the company or institution, a summary of the internship, and information on the interview.
